Grim Grinning Ghosts.

Posted on Sun Aug 29th, 2021 @ 3:31pm by Lieutenant Skovik cha Silask

Mission: Guilty By Association
Location: Planetside

It had taken some time, 9.75 hours longer than he had expected to get his monitoring nanobots into a conformation that was even remotely useful to their surveillance needs. In total he'd spent 38.95 hours in their creation and specialization.

His shoulder was sore after the hours of work, over a petri dish doing the specialized connections that the nano-surveillance robots required to function. The work would have been grueling had he not had the discipline of the Vulcan Way.

Pursing his lips, Skovik activated the surveillance with a brief quiet whistle of a line of music. "Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize" he repeated aloud, inwardly enjoying the play of words together. Human music was so innovative and creative, and the notion that human spirits would wander the world after their passing was interesting. He'd never been favored with the Katra of another, to pass onto the Vault of Memory. T'Plyvil had died so suddenly he'd been struck nearly catatonic by the loss of her minds bond. There had been no hope of the fal'tor'pan working. It was an ever present emptiness in his soul, and he raised his eyes to the sun shining down on the landing pad.

An ache in his throat stole his voice , and he was fortunate that he'd already sung the activation. Occasionally -as it did even now- the amount his psyche had not healed from her passing would seriously concern him. While the tall Vulcan didn't need to think of such things with any urgency, he would eventually need to address the wound that still existed in him. The acrid scent of smoke on the wind brought his attention back to what he was doing and away from his past.

The lights on his PADD blinked first yellow, then green as each dot corresponded to one nanobot that was activating and propelling itself towards the different factions that were at war. Pinpoints of light that immediately started to relay information to the PADD. It was coded in an ancient Vulcan dialect, that was found on the Delta-Vega colony.

The failsafe to these particular spies was particularly clever, they would go dormant if they were in proximity to any individual that had the biosigns of a native. Dormant- but not inactive, as they would still be passively recording the information around them. If they were moved by anyone that wasn't him, they would self destruct. They would turn into dust motes, that could have come from any of the setup that the hospital had created.

It was as perfect a system as he could create in so short a time, and Skovik was satisfied with their deployment and at this present time he was also satisfied with their functionality.
Time would tell whether or not they were effective enough to keep the medical crew safe.
