Work Never Stops

Posted on Wed Feb 19th, 2020 @ 2:01am by Major Samantha Snyder & Lieutenant Colonel Jason "Jack" Frost

Mission: Under A Glassy Surface, Where We Don't Belong...
Location: MCO's Office / Later Earth SFMC Facility
Timeline: Current

Jack walked in to his office and straight away sat in his chair. He desperately wanted to get his boots off as they were a little tight around the heel. Deep down he was still troubled by the whole situation following the facility but more so over the attack by clearly Federation ships, one of which they towed back to Earth after disabling it.

"I am so glad that is over with, and that issue with Miss Troubled." Jack spoke as he pulled off the last boot.

"At least we are back in orbit, I'm planning to go planetside just to get off ship, hopefully with Annabelle." Samantha replied as she sank into a chair in front of his desk.

"Well while you do that, I have to go to Command about filling in personnel gaps left by departures and rotations." Jack replied knowing that it would take time and a lot of talking which he was far from in the mood for.

"I think I know of someone that might be able to help." Samantha spoke trying to make the Colonel's job a little easier. "Captain Lio, she works at command. She was a recruit orientation officer when I last saw her but she might be able to fix you up with what you need."

"Thanks, I'll look her up while I'm on the way and arrange to meet her. Might be good to walk around familiar stomping grounds." Jack answered.

Samantha thought for a moment before she spoke again. "What are you thinking?" Sam asked seeing that look on Jack's face.

"Just the last mission." Jack replied. The two of them spent nearly an hour talking about what skill sets that would be needed to fill in, armed with such information Jack could clearly make his needs known to this Captain Lio.

*** Earth - SFMC Facility ***

Jack walked along the edge of the parade grounds that started off his own career many many years prior, little had changed, the same flag pole, patch of grass, the tree had grown. Since the Dreadnought had returned to Earth and most of the crew had been given R&R while Captain Hood faces the music for what happened. As with anything service related there were rotations, transfer requests, promotions, all these things effected a command position and one that he needed to handle.

Jack had some ideas for a few changes he wanted to make, expand on the capability of his marines. The Dreadnought was massive in comparison to any ship before it and he knew that there would be times he'd be tasked with working with Security to cover the entire vessel especially if boarded. He watched a platoon of trainees jog by in formation causing him to smile as he recalled the amount of times he did that in his youth.

"Colonel Frost, glad you could make it sir." A younger female marine spoke as she approached the platoon admiring Colonel. "Captain Lio, Administrative Training Officer." Her hand out to the man.

"Captain." Jack replied shaking her hand. Seemed pointless to introduce himself shes she'd just mentioned his name.

"Right this way and we can discuss your needs."

Jack followed walking up the long path to the Administration Building with the words on the side of it in big blue letters on a slightly dirty white backing. Walking in and following a corridor left, then right they walked into the Captain's office and offered a seat. "So, your request said that you wanted to discuss some training needs?"

"Yes." Jack replied as he got comfortable.

"Allow me to pull up the vessels file." Lio spoke and seconds later a raised brow followed. "I see. So, what can I help you with?"

"I have a skill set shortage on board following rotations and departures and I was hoping that you might be able to help me fill them." Jack handed over the notes that he'd made with Samantha in his office prior to his departure. Jacked watched the Captain as she read the notes and then started entering information into her console.

"How many marines are you looking for?"

"37 all in." Jack replied as he peered out the window behind the Captain.

"Experience requirement?" Captain Lio asked.

"Experience comes in the field, as long as they are certified and rated I can get them the experience." Jack said as he turned his attention back to the Captain he came to see.

"Can I ask why you didn't go through the usual channels to fill this manpower need?" Lio asked.

"Major Samantha Snyder actually recommended I come see you. I could have gone through usual channels but when my Exec recommends someone is the person to see, I trust the recommendation." Jack answered though he noticed the hint of a smile that graced Lio's face at his words.

"I can have a list available for you within 48 hours with the specified requirements." Lio spoke.

"Copy to Major Snyder too, I'll obviously discuss selections with her too." Jack asked knowing that was exactly what he was going to do.

"Of course."

Figuring that his task was done and while he was here he wanted to walk around the place to see what had changed from 'his day'. "Thank you for this."

"It's my pleasure Colonel."
