I'm Afraid Sir.....

Posted on Wed Dec 9th, 2020 @ 8:28pm by Lieutenant Commander Zan Luthar & Fleet Captain William Hood

Mission: Broken
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Current

Will was reading the newest report about the destruction of the planet they were observing when his door chime sounded the presence of someone wanting to speak to him. Interruptions were expected so he gave his customary call. "Come."

Zan was very uneasy about what he had do next, he felt like he was letting everyone down but he understood that by saying nothing would cause more harm than good. When he heard the Captain speak it snapped him back to the moment, one that he was dreading in a way. When the doors opened and he saw the Captain he knew there was no going back now.

He took a breath and stepped in. "Sir, do you have a moment?"

Will looked up to see his CAG. "Commander, of course, please come in." Will was keep to know what would bring his CAG to his office at this moment.

"Well....." Zan sighed, coughed to clear his throat. "Well, I've come to submit my resignation as CAG and Starfleet Sir." There, it was done, he'd said it.

Zan's reply caught Will off guard, this was not what he was expecting at all. Almost at a loss for words he had to take a moment before answering. "I see, may I ask why?" Will wanted to try and understand the driving force behind such a request at least if he was to understand it.

Zan went on to explain what brought this turn of events on, he made it clear that he was not unhappy but his priorities had changed and flying was not amongst them. He made a point that he'd stay on board the ship as a civilian, if needs be help with the transition of position to the Wing's Exec.

"I see." There was little Will could say that seemed to blunt the clearly detailed thought Zan had put into this request. This was not an ideal time but that was part of the service and things didn't always go in accordance with ideal timing. "Well, if you are sure this is what you want I will process everything. You understand that your access will be revoked and as a civilian the hangers and secure areas will be off limits?"

"Yes sir, I do." Zan knew that would happen, as painful as it would be to not see his fighter again, sit in it, or strap in he knew it was something he'd have to give up.

"Very well." Will stood up. "You have been with the Dreadnought for a while now, it will be a shame to lose you but I respect the decision you have come to." His hand out towards Zan, a smile, if pained one at losing such a capable office on his face.

"Thank you Sir." A firm shake of the hand, a respectful eye to eye contact and then Zan left. Just Zan, no Commander or CAG anymore...

Just Zan.

He headed to his office one last time to get a few personal effects and then to his Quarters. He suspected that he'd have to give those up too since they were for senior officers only but he'd deal with that when the time came and the notification came through. There were times that he was glad that he didn't have much, this was one of those times.
