Getting Familiar

Posted on Sun May 10th, 2020 @ 4:12am by Lieutenant Midori Kimoto

Mission: Under A Glassy Surface, Where We Don't Belong...
Location: Holodeck
Timeline: Current

Midori had gone to the bridge earlier just to get a look at it. With permission, of course. Faces turned as she explained who she was. The helmsman turned, looking a bit embarrassed. He knew they had gotten a new Chief but didn't know who she was. They had a short conversation while she studied the section, familiarizing herself. Finished, she excused herself.

Next stop, the holodeck. She walked up to the panel, "Computer, open holodeck program Kimoto465.1. She walked in. Before her was a copy of the Dreadnought bridge, a simulation.

Taking her position, the program began. On screen, an asteroid belt was in their path. Her job was to get through it with minimal damage although she'd prefer no damage at all. This ship was much bigger, making the maneuvers much more difficult.

Taking a deep breath, she started the journey through it. Space was filled with big, medium and small rocks from the asteroid. The trick was finding a path through it, large enough for the ship to pass. This was proving much more difficult for the ship and her. As they passed through it, she managed to dodge the small ones. The sound of the rocks hitting the hull could be heard and the shi would slightly shake. As the ship travelled, she saw two asteroid rocks, one medium and one large. The space between it was barely enough room. It would be a tight fit.

Midori could be heard cursing like a banshee as her first attempt was a complete failure. Easing an Intrepid class through it was so easy but this monster of a ship wasn't. It was her 7th attempt that proved semi-successful, meaning that she didn't destroy half of the ship.

Midori upped the difficulty level and made many attempts to get through it successfully. She was in there for two hours going through the asteroid belt. She started to understand what this ship could do versus what the Intrepid could do.

Her time was almost up. She managed to reach the acceptable goal but Midori was slightly a perfectionist, giving her all to what she did best. So, she tried it one more time before her holodeck time was up. It went much better this time as she maneuver the ship through it. She was satisfied. She had accomplished her mission.

"Computer, end program."

Midori left the holodeck to reward herself with a chocolate sundae.
