Konnichiwa and Hello

Posted on Sat May 2nd, 2020 @ 9:01am by Commander Bianca Caselli & Lieutenant Midori Kimoto

Mission: Under A Glassy Surface, Where We Don't Belong...
Location: XO's Office

Bianca had received word that the new helm officer had arrived on the ship and had already sent word that she would like to see Lieutenant Kimoto in her office as soon as she was able. The Lieutenant had been a last minute addition to the crew, arriving aboard the Dreadnought right before they left Earth, and due to the hurried nature of the crew transfer, Bianca definitely wanted to check and make sure the new Lieutenant was settling in okay.

At the chime of the annunciator, Bianca looked up toward the doors and smiled. "Enter," she called as she stood up behind her desk. "Lieutenant Kimoto, thank you for joining me so quickly. How are you settling in so far?"

Midori glanced around the room for a moment as she walked into the room, then at the XO as she approached her desk. She gave her a traditional Japanese bow, "Commander." She continued, "So far, so good. I haven't really had the chance to explore the ship. Been unpacking and setting up my quarters."

Bianca laughed and motioned for Midori to take a seat before returning to her own seat. "The ship is impressive. I still get lost. I think I've worked out from my quarters I can now get to the Bridge, my office, the promenade and the holodecks without too much difficulty, but anything else I'm still asking for directions. I'm sure you'll settle in quickly enough though."

Midori sat down, "Hopefully. It took a while to find my quarters. I swear that my quarters are bigger than my other one. I'm used to an Intrepid class ship." She didn't take a breath as she continued to speak, "Did you know that you can fit six Intrepids inside this ship? It's really big but it's also slower. I'm used to going warp seven but I guess I'll just have to get used to going warp five. I'm going to have to get used to a lot of things. I'm not complaining or anything." She realized that she was starting to babble. She quietly took a breath and exhaled.

Bianca laughed. "Don't let Captain Hood hear you say that. He's quite protective of his ship," she said with a grin. "Until I came aboard here I had no idea ships of this size were actually in service, and here we are. But, for all of her compromises, I'm actually impressed at how smoothly she runs. And yes, the senior staff quarters are huge! I'm sure my quarters here is bigger than the house I grew up in!"

Midori chuckled, "I know mine is." She just had to ask, "I haven't met Captain Hood yet. What is he like? Is he easy to talk to? I'm only asking because my last CO was so intimidating. I'd only talk to him if I had to. Otherwise, I'd avoid him like the pesuto."

There was a pause. "Captain Hood is a good man," Bianca replied with a smile. "He cares about his crew and he'll always make time for everyone. He can be a bit terse sometimes and he can appear intimidating, but he's a good man. You'll report to me most of the time anyway, but should you need him he'll be there."

"Okay, good to know." She thought for a moment, "When I first came aboard, I was told that I got here just in time. Is there something I need to know? I am assuming that I will be assigned to the bridge at some time soon."

"We've just recalled the crew from shore leave on Earth so we'll be gearing up for departure shortly. Once we've departed the Captain will brief us on where we're headed." Bianca paused for a moment. "I would suggest though that you take some time to familiarize yourself with the bridge and your station before we depart," she added with a smile.

She nodded, "Okay, I will do that immediately." She felt her stomach growl. She got a little embarrassed, "Well, that is, after I eat." She wasn't sure where that was though.

Bianca laughed softly and nodded. "Of course Lieutenant. Once you walk out of my office, turn left. Go to the turbolifts and go down to deck 120. When you get out of the turbolift, turn right and just follow your nose, you can't miss it. That deck has the best selection of good food on the Promenade." She leaned back in her seat for a moment. "If you have nothing else you need from me, you're free to go. Welcome aboard Lieutenant."

Midori stood up, "Thank you. If I do, I'll let you know." She gave a slight bow and left.
