In the dark of the night

Posted on Mon Mar 30th, 2020 @ 6:20am by Lieutenant Nimeeh Vixil & Lieutenant Acacia Thomas & Lieutenant Skovik cha Silask

Mission: Under A Glassy Surface, Where We Don't Belong...
Location: Ships Lounge

Nim walked into the lounge. As she fully expected, lights were below half illumination and the lounge was deserted. The crew were long since tucked up in their beds with visions of sugar plums... if they were lucky.

She, on the other hand, was struggling with the visions that came all too readily to her mind. Replicating herself a mug of mocha and a plate of shortbread cookies, she picked both up and instinctively headed for the further most booth in the lounge, the place she was least likely to be seen by others.

It was only as she set down the plate and started to slide in that she realized she wasn't alone.

Acacia was already sitting in the alcove that Nim was headed to. The dark shadows under her eyes slightly more prominent in the dim light. A cup of chocolate with a shot of Irish Creme steamed before her as blue eyes stared into the darkness.

Having set the program he'd written to dig deeper into the inner workings in his office to run while he was away Skoviks mind drifted to the last time he'd eaten. It had been 13.5 hours and that span of time was illogical. The closest place to find sustenance at this hour was the forward lounge, and he headed there.

There was a moment of alarm on her face as Nim's eyes widened at the realisation that she had just so rudely intruded on someone else's personal time. Relaxing slightly, she sighed and shook her head. "Sorry Lieutenant, I genuinely didn't realise you were here. Looks like I'm not the only one wanting to hide from the crowd?"

"Nightmares again. What's your excuse?" Acacia smiled, gesturing with her glass for Nim to take a seat. "Don't let that be the reason you don't join me."

"Same," Nim replied with a smirk as she slid into the seat. "Nothing worse than being a grown adult who's afraid of things that go bump in the night huh?" she shook her head before turning her attention toward Skovik as he walked in.

Skovik entered the lounge quietly and walked to the replicator in the alcove furthest from the windows. He could easily make out the quiet conversation of the two females in the room. Nightmares, that is not something I am unfamiliar with. I wonder if I should remain or if my presence is intrusive.

"You're the new intel officer aren't you?" Nim called quietly, even the soft tone of her voice seeming loud in the otherwise silent room. "I haven't had a chance to meet you. I'm Nim, this is Acacia. Did you want to join us?"

"I am. My given name is Skovik, no rank moniker is needed. If my presence is not intrusive then I would find it pleasant to join you."

"Not at all, please..." Acacia moved over, and held up her glass "Can I interest you in some hot chocolate?"

Nim smiled. "We were just extolling the frustrations of lack of sleep," she said quietly. "So what brings you to the mess hall at this late hour? Or is it early?" the Trill asked, looking toward Acacia questioningly.

"Thank you, no. Chocolate is an intoxicant for Vulcans and while humorous for those around us, I generally choose not to imbibe." Skovik nodded to his cup "I am content with my tea and my meal."

"Really? Chocolate is an intoxicant?" Nim asked, surprise clear in her voice. "Wow, I couldn't live without chocolate." she laughed and shook her head. "Pretty sure it's my primary food group most days."

"Much like Alcohol to a human, is Chocolate to a Vulcan." his mouth turned upwards in the barest hint of a smile "I am told my behavior is amusing, however such a lack of control cannot be tolerated."

Thinking about that for a moment, Acacia couldn't help but giggle at the image of a drunken Vulcan. Someone normally so calm and pristine shattering his or her facade like that. Her giggles turned into outright laughter.

Acacia's inability to control her own amusement left Nim giggling herself, though she also tried to hide it. "You know, I think that would be something worth seeing," she said as she tried to calm her laughter. "I mean... Vulcans are always so stoic and in control... I don't know that I've ever seen an intoxicated Vulcan!"

Acacias giggles finally tapered off into silence when she purposely looked away from Skovik "Boy I needed that" she admitted after she'd managed to catch her breath.

Nim smiled as she watched Acacia catch her breath and calm down. "Guess it's true," she mused softly. "Laughter is always the best medicine."
