Made it home to You

Mission: What Stalks The Night

Vic was glad to be out of quarantine. That was crazy how Nim and him had just arrived and he got thrown into the fire and almost didn't make it back. Things where still in limbo as to who the new Security Chief was but he was was more concerned with getting to see Nim. He sat in a lounge chair looking out at the stairs he found himself zoning in and zoning out the surroundings.

Nim was weary, beyond weary. At this point she couldn't clearly recall how many hours she had been on her feet, or when she last ate, but there was finally a lull and they were able to get away and rest for a bit. The thought of curling up in an unused bio bed and just sleeping had occurred to her. It wouldn't be the first time she'd done it, and it sure wouldn't be the last, but the news that the away team had not only returned to the ship, but been released from quarantine meant that she wanted to see Vic, even if it was just long enough to assure herself that he was okay.

Pausing outside the door to his quarters for a moment, she tried to straighten her disheveled uniform and ran her fingers through her hair before she hit the chime, not even sure if he'd still be awake.

Vic didn't hear the door chime he was lost in the vastness of space. He had spent what felt like forever trapped in the corridors and cold rooms of the station that looking out at the endless expanse had a calming effect on him.

When he didn't respond to the second chime, Nim used her medical override clearance to gain access to his quarters. As soon as she stepped inside, she looked around, growing concern etched on her face until she saw him sitting in the chair. Walking across, she placed a hand gently on his shoulder. "Are you alright?" she asked softly.

The soft touch was so tender and gentle but was just what Vic needed to jostle him out of his trance. He brought his much larger rocky hand and put it on top of hers. "Yeah just have a new affinity for open spaces." He said with a growing grin as he turned to look in her eyes.

Unzipping her jacket carefully and putting it aside, careful to make sure it wasn't touching any soft furnishings, she moved to sit on the arm rest of the chair next to him. "I'm glad you're back," she said quietly. "We were worried... I was worried." She sighed softly as she turned her attention to the view port. "Hard to believe sometimes that something that looks so pretty can harbor so much pain and suffering."

Vic took a second to take the view in with her and then he put his arm around her and gently moved her off the arm of the chair and into his lap with his arms wrapping around her. "So what did I miss on here?"

Nim yawned, not even bothering to stifle it. She was exhausted. There was no way to hide it. "You mean aside from the missing away team?" she asked rhetorically. "Hangar bay explosion, plasma conduit blow out and fire, multiple gravity plating failures and the ship was attacked by... well, I don't even know by who. I don't think I've slept since before you left." She leaned into him, resting her head against his chest. "Was it bad down there?"

"Well it wasn't good." He replied trying to worry here more then she was already gonna see in the reports. "Just glad it's over and I have you back in my arms."

"I heard some of the stories from some of the team that is still quarantined," she said quietly. "So much death." She sighed. Despite working in medical, death was something she still struggled with, even more so of late.

"Yeah." Was all Vic could muster as he head sank down into her shoulder. He was dealing with the regret of not being able to save everyone. He wished he had found a way to stop the beast earlier.

Turning into him more, she rested her hand on the side of his face. "I'm glad you made it home safe," she whispered softly.

He was so comfortable he barely was able to audible "Me too" before he started to drift off to sleep.

Nim smiled, nestling into him and closing her eyes to just remain where she was, at least for the moment.
